Revolution in cannabinoid therapies

For decades, cannabinoids such as dronabinol and cannabidiol have been improving the quality of life all over the world. In contrast to their huge medicinal potential, however, the market for these products is still in its early stages. This is why we also offer THC, CBD and more as formulation starting materials for pharmacies - and openly challenge the existing structures in the process.

What is dronabinol?

Dronabinol stands for (-)-trans-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC. What many people don't know: In medical practice, dronabinol has been used in Germany for over 20 years to treat various diseases such as chronic pain. And yet, until a few years ago, there was only one supplier of dronabinol in this country.

Monopolies are never good. Therefore, we have broken it up. Cantourage's dronabinol was the first product in our range in spring 2020. The result: since entering the market, the price of dronabinol has fallen by more than 50 percent. Why does this affect and help us all? Because the costs for dronabinol medicines are nearly always covered by health insurance. With an annual volume of almost 100 kilograms of dronabinol, this results in savings of over 17 million euros per year for the German health system. Mission accomplished.

From syringe to solution

Besides the lack of competition, we were particularly concerned about the lack of innovation in the dronabinol market. Especially because the production of dronabinol medicines in pharmacies has always been very time-consuming: heating, diluting with excipients, filling into a dispensing container for patients - a lengthy and error-prone procedure.

Since spring 2022, this has come to an end: with Cantourage's dronabinol solution, after the quality check, the pharmacy does not have to do anything more than decant the quantity indicated on the prescription into a patient container and seal it. All excipients are already included here. In addition to the reduced costs, dronabinol can now also be processed in a fraction of the time previously required. The success proves us right: just a few months after the market launch, more than one in five dronabinol preparations in Germany is processed with the help of the solution - and the trend is rising sharply!
